HP moves jobs to Ciudad Juarez

Feb18, 2010.- For logistics reasons, given the greater proximity with the United States, HP Company decided to concentrate manufacturing operations in Ciudad Juarez. Where this year HP will create between three to four thousand new jobs.

 

Octavio Marquez, president and CEO of HP Mexico, stated that the operation mobilization to this manfacturing site, some of which were Foxconn in Guadalajara, as well as others from the rest of the country, including Houston Texas, were given thanks to the geographic position and the labor force of the city.

 

"In these sites" stated Marquez, "Around 100 thousand HP servers will be manufacture every trimester, something like on every 20 seconds." he said.

 

"It is a strategic matter. Mexico manufacturing against Asia because of costs. Yes, it is cheaper to manufacture in Asia, but we have logistic advantage due to our proximity to the United States. In addition, the TLC makes it easir and faster", he stated.

 

Foxconn is one of the companies that could receive part of the total jobs announced by HP Mexico, this due to the fact that in its products ypu can find servers that are precisaely from this firm.

 

One should also note that in terms of electronics the city is one of the strongest when it comes to employment.

 

Besides Foxconn, others like Asus and Lexmark are dedicated to manufacture computer equipment. There are also other firms like Toshiba or Tatung, focused on the manufacturing of monitors and televisions.
